Reproduction Modes Determine Morality

The tendency towards altruism vs egoism is heavily influenced in practice by the type of reproduction that the species tends to utilize the most.

For instance, most of life on Earth reproduces sexually. This type of reproduction rewards altruistic behaviour a lot more than any other form of reproduction, because children are not identical to the parents, and so in order for children to survive, the parents must have the capacity of empathy towards others.

Alternatively, there are two forms of asexual reproduction that can be conceived of.

One is cloning or copying of the original, which requires no empathy towards others who are different from oneself, but only empathy towards others who are identical. This is rarely seen among the more sophisticated species on Earth, but is common among single-celled organisms.

The other is conquest or domination, which is reproduction through converting others to become copies of the invader. This not only does not require any empathy towards others who are not identical, but involves active malevolence towards the other. This is relatively rare on Earth, and is mainly seen in viruses and parasites.

If we assume that Earth is a good representation of the distribution of different reproductive modes, then it seems like altruistic-friendly entities should overwhelmingly outnumber the inherently egoistic-unfriendly ones.
